What is Large Hop Clover?

Like most clover weeds, large hop clover has the signature three-leaf grouping. However, it produces bright yellow flowers in clusters, not white or purple. It's a winter annual and has short, hairy stems that appear reddish in color, but not always. It's a sprawling weed much like other clovers and is seen in lawns and other landscaped areas.

Getting Rid of Large Hop Clover

Good turf maintenance is key to stopping clover weeds from taking over the lawn. Thick, healthy grass is the enemy of weeds and chokes them out. For clovers that have established in the turf, use a postemergent herbicide with triclopyr, clopyralid or an herbicide labeled for clover to reduce the weeds in the yard.
